Peter Cottontail

This is one of the favorite and most well-known of secular Easter songs.  I’m not sure who the original songwriter was, although I believe Gene Autrey was the first to record it.

Here comes Peter Cottontail
Hopping down the bunny trail.
Hippity, hoppity, Easter’s on its way.

Bringing every girl and boy
A basket full of Easter joy,
Things to make your Easter bright and gay.

He’s got jellybeans for Tommy,
Colored eggs for sister Sue.
There’s an orchid for your mommy
And an Easter bonnet, too.

Oh, here comes Peter Cottontail
Hopping down the bunny trail.
Hippity, hoppity, happy Easter Day!

Here’s a funny little toy singing this great old song:

And if that’s not enough to put an Easter smile on your face, try to sing along with the bunnies themselves in this classic Toys-R-Us commercial.
